Dear Friends,

This month, I want to tell you about some very urgent needs here at Buffalo City Mission and ask that you do everything possible to pass on this information to your congregation. In the midst of what promises to be a sizzling summer, Buffalo City Mission’s shelters are filled to capacity with homeless men, women and children who need our care and guidance.

Please be a “voice of hope” for the homeless as you take our needs to the Lord and to your church. We appreciate every effort you make on our behalf. We could not do what we do without your friendship, support and prayers. Blessings!

Aubrey Calhoun
Director of Community Relations

We’re focusing on one huge need at both our Men’s Community Center and our Women and Children’s Shelter, Cornerstone Manor: underwear!

For the first time in many years, we are unable to provide new underwear and socks to our clients. We need new packaged donations of:

• Men’s underwear, sizes small to 4XL
• Women’s underwear, sizes small to 4XL
• Children’s underwear, toddler to large
• Socks for men, women and children

Please encourage your church members to either simply donate new, packaged underwear to the Mission or hold an UNDIES SUNDAY DRIVE! Collect “undies” and ask everyone to bring their donations on a designated “Undies Sunday”—it’s that easy.

This need is critical. Please call Peggy Johnson at (716) 854-8181, ext. 408 or e-mail her for more information or to let us know you can help. Thanks!

Take Note! You can download an Undies Sunday Undies Monday flier to use at church or at the office here.

During the summer, the number of homeless seeking our help escalates. At the same time, giving declines as folks get busy with warm weather activities and vacations.

You can help by asking members of your church to give $1 a day to cover the summer months—$90 for 90 days! Or, ask your Sunday school class or workplace to collect and donate $90. Just $1 a day can make a big difference in our efforts to serve the homeless and near-homeless of Western New York! Thanks for your faithful and consistent generosity.

Volunteers from New Hope Baptist Church “adopted” courtyard planters at our Women and Children’s Shelter this spring. Here, two church members plant a shrub on a chilly spring day. The group will return this month to add flowers!

Watch for the next issue of The Church Ambassador. Your church could be here!

Item Three:
This summer, Buffalo City Mission is asking concerned Christians to donate $90 for 90 days of summer. During the summer, the Mission’s shelters are filled to capacity with men, women and children escaping domestic abuse, street violence and other dangers.
