As summer approaches, the staff at Buffalo City Mission turns our attention to keeping the children at our women’s and children’s shelter, Cornerstone Manor, busy! We’re also in the middle of planning exciting events like our Spring Clothing Drives and our August 2 motorcycle event, Run for the Homeless! You’ll find information about both when you visit our Web site.

Read on to learn more about ways you and your church members can get involved in our ministry. Together we can serve the homeless and hurting right here in our own backyard of WNY!

Buffalo City Mission wishes to thank the following groups for “adopting” areas throughout our facilities that needed a touch of beauty!

J.W. Loguen Amazon Church’s youth group is decorating urns at the front entrance of the Men’s Community Center and planting a vegetable garden at Cornerstone Manor, our women’s and children’s shelter.

New Hope Baptist Church member Barbara Chapman, along with family and friends, is decorating six urns in the courtyard of our women’s and children’s shelter.

St. Bartholomew Episcopal Church will maintain landscaping around the flagpole at our Men’s Community Center at 100 E. Tupper Street.

Amherst Church of Christ has decorated the chapel altar at our Men’s Community Center.

Members of Jordan River Missionary Baptist Church donated “welcome kits” containing toiletries, washcloths and more, along with a financial gift as part of their “first fruits offering” in April. Thanks and God bless you. As you’ve given to them, you’ve given to Him!

Ask your church to insert these items in an upcoming bulletin or newsletter, and to add them to your church Web site’s upcoming events page. Consider placing them in your workplace’s company newsletter, too!

Item One:
Throughout May, honor the remarkable woman in your life—or in your church!—by making a gift to Buffalo City Mission. Give online at www.buffalocitymission.org. The Mission will send your honoree a special note card notifying her of your gift and place her name on a billboard display on the Web site. Each gift will be used to help a homeless woman at Buffalo City Mission’s women’s and children’s shelter, Cornerstone Manor.

Item Two:
August 2 is Buffalo City Mission’s second annual Run for the Homeless. This motorcycle event will raise money to fund programs and services for the homeless and near-homeless of Western New York. You don’t have to ride to pledge or attend this exciting event!

Buffalo City Mission can turn your congregation’s extra vehicles into Kingdom Capital! Church members can call Gary Hayes, vehicle donation coordinator, at (716) 896-4430 to schedule a pick up and for information about receipting and tax deductions.

What happens then? Donated vehicles will be repaired and sold to individuals needing reliable, inexpensive transportation and the proceeds from each sale go into our general fund. So, each generous gift goes to help the hungry and homeless right here in our own backyard!

Thanks for passing on this important program—it’s a win-win-win for the donor, the family who receives transportation and the homeless who need our programs and services.

Check out our list of currently available vehicles for sale at our Web site.
